Taiwan is losing Ambassadors — Gold Card holders.
I have been part of the Gold Card program for three years. Nearly from the start. That makes me a Veteran Gold Carder by most standards. Initially, as any newcomer, I was excited.
Excited for the new surroundings, the new people I met, the potential opportunities but then the reality set in. Now after three years I think the Gold Card program was a good initiative that could have been executed better. The numbers and community speak for itself.
I believe the current program is unfortunately failing. It is failing Taiwan because it is failing the individual Gold Carders. While the Gold Card office attracts the attention of foreign professionals, its chief KPI is the number of Gold Cards issued. I believe it must turn its attention to effectively retaining them if it wishes to avoid becoming little more than a recruitment office. The real value of the Gold Card program should be judged by how many Gold Card holders are retained and this is accomplished by making sure they thrive in Taiwan.
Right now there is not much in the form of effective ongoing support for the professionals that come in and as such they eventually leave. It is far more important to know how many people stay (and why) as opposed to how many people sign up. This is the real KPI Taiwan should be pursuing and it is not accounted for.
