Happiness. We keep hearing we should all be happy. So many services, products and professionals exist in an attempt to make us happy. What if I told you its a hoax?

Sure. I want to be happy. I want my loved ones to be happy. The reality is we cannot be happy all the time and that is ok. The reality is that happiness is an emotion. Just like fear, anger, jealousy and a host of other emotions they are all on the spectrum of the human condition. No one is afraid, jealous or angry all the time. Same goes for happiness. No one is happy all the time.

We are told happiness is a warm cup of coffee (buy the coffee!), a cozy bed to curl up in (buy the mattress!), a better car (buy the car!), a fancy watch (to show everyone how successful you are!) a better education (pay more tuition!), get a promotion at work (work harder!), still not happy? (buy these pills, they will make you happy!)- see a pattern?

We are bombarded by immense stress and pressure to be “happy”.
This “happiness” is typically constructed for us by others. That is part of the problem. These people and businesses are interested in what we have to offer and little more. Typically they want our money, sometimes our time, sometimes both. They all tell us that we will be happy if we exchange our resources for their products, services, cars, houses…
